The park of Priezhkalns
The park of Priezhkalns is one of our oldest parks and houses the family crypt built by Count Mellin in 1819. The former mourning lane, marked by large and heavy iron gates leads to the crypt.
Wood Park
Wood Park, also known as Emily’s Park is much newer, having been created at the time of the new Castle building in the middle of the 19th century. This spacious park was designed by August Fon Pistolkorss as a present for his beloved wife Emilia. The Park features long meandering promenades, inviting guests to enjoy the mysterious and fascinating sights of nature on foot or on a bicycle.
Scenery Park
Scenery Park is smaller than the others and leads you from the Castle’s horse stables to the Gardener’s house. Bird’s Garden is located at the far end of Scenery Park. In the center stands the Oak of Love with its branches ringing out the joyful sounds of the love bells left by newly wed couples.
The Regular Park
The Regular Park, located between the Castle and the lake, is quite different. From the balcony of the Castle you get a wonderful view of these historic terraces. As you descend the wide stone stairs, you will come to the pavilion at the lakeside. This is a perfect location for photos, as so many guests have discovered, and here many couples have exchanged their vows of eternal love in marriage ceremonies.
Lakes
To enter or leave the Castle grounds, you must cross the lock that separates two lakes, Birini Lake and the Lake of the Mill.
Watermill
The road that winds along the Lake of the Mill leads to the old Water Mill. Here you will find a museum of ethnic treasurers and a quaint pub, which are open in the summer. You may enjoy cocktails on the wood terrace overlooking the lake and watch the colorful plays of nature on the water before you. Many groups have chosen to organize picnics on the Kastankalns and lower terrace of the Mill. You are also welcome to enjoy sliding hill and the amusing ancestor’s leze or carrousel on the ice in the winter season. Just let us know beforehand and we will prepare a warm bonfire, hot tea and a bath here for your visit.
