FAMILY CRYPT

The Family Crypt at Birini Manor is a unique sample of historic architecture in Latvia. It is the only crypt built into a hill with a barrel-vaulted ceiling. It was built in Priezkalna Park by Count Ludwig August Mellin from 1814-1819.

LAKESIDE PAVILION

The most ancient pavilion was built in the middle of the 19th century between the Regular garden and the Lake. It is a popular wedding ceremony site, which has heard ‘I will!’ countless times.

SPRING-WELL HILL PAVILION

The pavilion is situated in Emily’s Park on top of the Spring-well Hill. It has a beautiful view at the first round-shaped August’s Pond below. You can also see the sculptures of the angels and the Castle in the North-West.

GARDENER’S PAVILION

There is a newly-built wooden pavilion behind the Gardener’s House next to the herb garden and blossoming magnolia. The project was financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development in 2013. The pavilion was constructed by local craftsmen and has several loungers with a view down the hill to the Watermill Lake below.

OTHER ELEMENTS OF ARCHITECTURE

There is a red arched brick gate at the end of the alleyway, white Maingate near the Castle, Count Mellin’s gate to the Mourning Alley, obelisks near the Castle, stele to Emily in the park, footbridges and stone-brick stairs in the Regular garden.
