I dedicated all my efforts to create something lasting and beautiful for our Fatherland. My home was my world…” August von Pistohlkors
ENTRANCE HALL STAIRCASE
One of the greatest treasures of the Castle is the wide woodcraft staircase decorated with lathed balusters, volute consoles, newels and balconies in dark oak wood. Constructed in 1860, the stairs are still being used counting our footsteps.
PHOTO GALLERY OF THE ANCIENT INTERIORS
Thanks to the information provided by the Pistohlkors descendants and memory collectors Katrina Klausner and Dagnija Gasler-Rosch, there is a photo gallery of the interiors and splendour in the Castle during the Pistohlkors’ rule.
CEILING AND DOORS OF THE GROUND FLOOR HALL
The ceiling of the Dining Hall on the ground floor consists of wooden crossbars decorated in ornaments and relief mouldings. The paintings create intarsia and make up a delicate arabesque. The lakeside balcony windows still have intarsed inner shutters.
The splendid ancient furnaces in the Castle are witness to the noble past. It is not only a stage set decoration, they can fill our hearts with beaming warmth.
ANCIENT WALL PAINT
The history of the Castle wall paint was revealed during the research. There are also examples of the original colour to compare with the present paint.
The piano in the Salon belongs to the piano maker from Birini Manor, Karlis Engizers, given as a present to the local teacher and choral conductor Adolfs Lukstins for his contribution to the education and culture development of the villagers in 1930s.
